A Quiet Street

Unusually the old village, the heart of Valbonne, is built on a grid pattern in the style of Roman military camp. Most villages in this area were constructed in spiral fashion around a hilltop for defence. It consisted originally of ten streets crossing ten streets with the village square or place at the centre. No need to say that the village has expanded since then..
I was standing just at the edge of the place looking down one of the two main avenues of the village. Pretty, isn't it?

Yes it is! But wow, this is already a main avenue? I'm awestruck. Here in Metro Manila, this would be considered an alley. I'm kind of envious — your village sounds very neat and peaceful.
